DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
“It happens to everybody.” Those were the only words my father and uncle could offer as consolation when the news broke that my best friend had been killed up the street from one of my childhood homes. In my life, Violence has always felt like a naturally occurring--almost inevitable--act of God. 500 FLOWERS is a lament for those souls lost to a roll of the cosmic dice. In this world, headstones are replaced by floral memorials born from seeds of youthful potential, monuments to decorate the block. Every flower has a name.
